Whether it’s during solo time or fun with a partner, anal play can unlock a whole new level of pleasure. You may not be sure where to begin or you might be a little nervous, so here are some tips to help make your toes curl from anal.
Start Small
What I’ve found is that the best way to ease into anal is with a small butt plug. Adam & Eve makes a great beginner set. It offers three butt plugs for “training” your ass. Start with the smallest size of course, as well as generous amounts of water-based lube. Slowly insert the plug into your ass, making sure to take your time. Make sure any anal plug you use has a wide base, for safety reasons. You definitely don’t want any toy getting stuck inside you.
Go Slow
It can take some getting used to. It’s a whole new sensation, after all. However, a small plug is a great way to get accustomed to anal, both physically and emotionally. You might find you don’t enjoy the sensation like you thought you might, and that’s okay.
When you pull the plug out, go just as slowly as you did when inserting it. Be sure to wash your toys after each use. A little soap and water will do the trick.
Vibrating Plugs
There are plenty of ways to explore solo anal play – you can wear your plug for a longer period of time, you can try a vibrating plug, or you can even apply a suction cup toy to a surface and do your own thrusting.
Stainless-Steal Plugs

Get Adventurous
Going from toys to your partner’s penis is a different experience since using a plug on yourself gives you all the control, but it can be just as hot, if not more hot, than solo play. Be sure that when you’re starting to explore anal with your partner that you’ve both had conversations regarding cleanliness (no ass to vagina or mouth), safety (go slowly, use lube), and boundaries (no hard thrusting until you’ve given the green light).
I find that the best position for first-time anal is to be on your back. This allows you to watch your partner and relax into the bed. All fours can be quite intense, so on your back is a good starting place. You can always change mid-position, if you’re looking to ramp up the sensations or try something new!
Just remember – lots of lube, take your time, and most importantly, enjoy yourself

My advice is to again a simple thing, talk to your partner and discuss limits, how slow you want to take it. Safe words again are a massive must, read your partners body response. Know when it’s good but more importantly know when to stop if it’s bad. Toys and plugs are a good starting place and can let you explore a little before moving on.
